There is something special about setting up a small pop-up stand on a weekend, even if it happens only a few times a year. The simple act of squeezing lemons, scooping ice, and pouring coffee creates a rhythm that pulls you into the moment. This past weekend, Amie and I packed up our gear and brought our little stand back to life in Raleigh. On one side, her fresh squeezed lemonade; on the other, my U.F.Jo cold brew and coffee drinks. The day was busy, loud, and exhausting—but it was also full of memories that will last long after the tents are folded and the coolers packed away.
The Rhythm of the Day
From the moment we arrived, the day moved quickly. The sound of lemons being pressed filled the air, mixing with the clinking of ice scoops and the steady pour of coffee. Orders came in faster than we could ring them up. A line formed, people chatting and kids staring wide-eyed at the giant cotton candy containers. The energy was contagious.
Working side by side, we moved nonstop. Each of us focused on our tasks but always ready to jump in and help when needed. The pace was intense, sometimes tripping over ourselves, but it was the kind of busy that feels good. It reminded me why I enjoy these pop-up days so much.
Small Challenges and Shared Solutions
No day at the stand goes perfectly. Sometimes the ice runs low, or a cup spills. The line grows longer, and the pressure builds. But these little problems don’t feel like setbacks. Instead, they become moments to work together, solve problems quickly, and laugh at the chaos.
For example, when a batch of lemonade ran out faster than expected, Amie and I quickly adjusted the recipe and squeezed more lemons on the spot. When the espresso pod adapter got misplaced, I switched to manual brewing to keep the drinks flowing. These moments of teamwork made the day feel like more than just selling drinks—they made it a shared experience.
Seeing Joy in Simple Things
One of the best parts of the day was watching people enjoy what we made. Kids’ faces lit up when they took their first sip of lemonade. Adults paused to savor the cold brew on a warm afternoon. The smiles and thank-yous reminded me that these simple drinks bring a little happiness to people’s day.
It’s easy to forget how powerful small moments like these can be. The act of making something fresh and sharing it with others creates a connection that goes beyond business. It’s about community, about being present, and about appreciating the little things.

The Value of Time Spent Together
Beyond the drinks and the customers, the time spent working side by side is what I value most. These pop-up days are rare, but they remind me how important it is to share moments with someone you care about. We solve problems together, share laughs, and support each other through the busy hours.
By the end of the day, our feet hurt, our voices were hoarse, and we were exhausted. But our hearts were full. The tiredness felt like proof of a day well spent.
Why These Moments Matter
In a world that often feels rushed and complicated, these simple moments stand out. They remind us to slow down and appreciate the process, the people, and the small joys. Setting up a lemonade and coffee stand might seem like a small thing, but it creates memories that last.
These weekends are priceless because they bring us back to what matters: connection, teamwork, and the joy of sharing something made with care.
